Members
of the MCFFP&D marched and performed at the dedication
of the Maryland Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Annapolis
on June 10, 2006. We were very proud to be a part of
this event. There was a special meaning to all firefighters
across Maryland to remember those who have given the
ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Members
of the MCFFP&D marched the 79th annual Apple Blossom
Fireman's parade on Friday, May 5th. We had about 12
players in attendance and we all agree that it was a
great event to play. Bass Drummer Brian Hagberg will
be the first to tell you that it was long and arduous
but very fulfilling to play. We would like to thank
our booster members that backed us up during the event,
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue for letting us use
their USAR Van for transport of members and equipment,
and we would especially like to thank all of those along
the parade route who cheered for us and asked for more!

On
November 13, 2005 members of the band attended the Dropkick
Murphy’s concert at the 9:30 club in the District.
The Washington D.C. Regional Police Pipe Band opened
for the show, and did an excellent job getting the crowd
ready for the headliners. Our members would like to
thank Scruffy and the rest of the Dropkick Murphy’s
for inviting us backstage and we look forward to seeing
them again next year!

The
band held their first fundraiser at Mrs. O’Leary’s
Irish Pub in Gaithersburg on March 19th. The band would
like to send our deepest thanks to all that attended
and purchased merchandise and participated in the auctions.
The event raised over $4000, and that money will be
used to help defer the high costs of uniforms and equipment.
We look forward to seeing everyone again next year!

On
September 1st, members of the band worked jointly with
the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services Honor
Guard and the IAFF Local 1664 to help “Fill the
Boot” for Muscular Dystrophy and “Jerry’s
Kids”. The International Association of Fire Fighters
(IAFF) is the largest national sponsor of the Muscular
Dystrophy Association (MDA). The contributions of the
fire fighters a go towards the worldwide research efforts
of MDA to eradicate 40 neuromuscular diseases, summer
camps for children, professional and public health education,
and other programs. Through their passionate Fill the
Boot campaigns, in which fire fighters greet motorists,
shoppers and others and ask them to donate money to
MDA, the IAFF contributed a record breaking $20.3 million
in year 2004 as a consequence of the overwhelming enthusiasm
and contribution of tens and thousands of fire fighters
and paramedics across the US and Canada.

After
months of anticipation, the pipers received their new
bagpipes on June 27th. We would like to thank Richard
Chane, our bagpipe supplier, for making the long trip
to personally deliver the pipes. His help and expertise
was very much appreciated. Additionally, the members
would like to apologize to the community of Braddock
Heights for the obnoxious noise we made trying to play
the new instruments!
